I’ve been interested in art and craft all my life, though I wouldn’t say that I am particularly talented in any one area!
Something that I’ve been mulling over in the past year or so …gritting my teeth about… is that art is seen as what men create, whereas craft is what women do. Craft is rarely seen as genuine art, to be admired and cherished as much as art despite the fact that it is, Art. I’d like that viewpoint to change, and I think that Etsy based stores are certainly a way to spread the notion.
Art should be accessible, wearable, useable, interesting, demanding, exciting – and Craft is all of this and more.
Creatively, my main interests lie in photography, beading/jewellery making and to a lesser extent (because lord knows I can’t read a pattern) knitting. Hey, I just started crocheting recently, too.
To put my money where my mouth is, a friend and I started a blog called Oohsome (http://oohsome.blogspot.com) to promote items that we find on Etsy and elsewhere. At the moment, we have about 100 unique visitors per day, so if your item is featured, I hope the sales increase for you!
I love fashion, but due to my plus size, fashion generally doesn’t love me, so since the year 2000 I’ve been a serious advocate and organiser of an international online group to promote plus size fashion interests called Don’t Tell Me What Size I Must B.
