Almost half a decade ago, I was a scientist. While reading a book about the science of mood and emotion, I noticed that serotonin, in addition to being the molecule that makes us feel happy, has a very pretty shape. I thought it would make a beautiful necklace that would serve as a kind of talisman for happiness. After a Google search yielded no serotonin necklaces, I learned to make jewelry so that I could have one. Now, I am a full-time cobbler of silver molecules (and am much happier!). Funny the turns life gives us!Serotonin is the neurotransmitter molecule that induces feelings of happiness, satisfaction, and relaxation. SSRI medications, such as Prozac, work by increasing levels of serotonin.Of my whole molecule jewelry collection, the serotonin necklace is still my favorite. Based on the molecular shape of serotonin, it has a elegant, modern shape and symbolizes the contented feeling of happiness so lacking in our modern, fractured, frenzied lives. It is both a meaningful personal symbol for happiness and a thoughtful gift for someone you wish happiness. The pendant is made of quality, recycled/reclaimed sterling silver, is 1.5 inches wide, and is attached to an 18 inch sterling silver oval link chain that can be adjusted to a perfect (smaller) length by hooking the lobster clasp through a different link. A dangle on the end of the chain gives any excess a finished look. (If you would like a different length, please ask.)Each is loving made, packaged in a recycled gift box, and includes an informational tag about serotonin.

In my line of molecule-inspired sterling silver jewelry, I've chosen molecules that have clear impact on our lives. I started with neurotransmitter molecules, like serotonin and dopamine, that affect our mood and emotions, and have added other favorites, like caffeine, estrogen, and...
