The next Internet revolution will not be in EnglishInternationalized domain names (IDNs) are domains that support one or more non-ASCII characters. A non-ASCII character includes accented characters such as “ä” or “é.” It also includes any non-Latin script, such as Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, Cyrillic, and Chinese. This map includes all top-level IDNs that have, as of February 2011, received formal approval by the regulatory body ICANN. The IDNs are positioned next to their equivalent ccTLDs. Some countries support more than one IDN to support more than one script, such China and Taiwan. India is a uniquely challenging domain because the country is home to more than 20 official languages across multiple scripts.
