These collages are illustrations from the book “Abecedário de Aves Brasileiras” (Brazilian Birds Alphabet Book), published and available in Brazil.
My idea for this project came from my love of birds — their incredible diversity, shapes, colors and characters — and also from my love for natural history books, especially bird books.
These illustrations are influenced by the works of James Audubon, Alexander Von Humbolt, Maria Sybille Merian.
I start a collage studying the life of the bird and collecting as much visual information as I can. Then I quickly sketch the image and little by little, with many pieces of discarded magazine paper I build the collage. It is as simple as that: paper, scissors and glue.
