After the attack on the twin towers in New York, both Europe and the USA started programmes for inner security and against terrorism. Like a war against terrorism. I consider terrorism one of the most horrible inventions ever. A complete waste of lifes. And I am very sorry for those who lost loved ones to any terrorist attack.
But I also felt, and still feel, that the way our governments deal with this threat is not the right one, either. Inducing fear and paranoia hasn’t ever helped anyone and it drives people and cultures apart. Nobody can connect to cultures that we’re scared of, and if we can’t at least learn about them, how are we supposed to make things better and terrorist attacks unnecessary ?
So a couple of years ago I created a series (seven, to be precise) of illustrations called ‘war against terrorism’, that deal ironically with this terrorist scare. All my illustrations are printed on very fine Canvas printing paper and ship in bendproof envelopes. Size: A4 (21 × 30 cm, 8,3 × 11,8 inches).
