About

This is a limited-edition, archival-quality fine art print of a classic 1947 Jim Flora album cover illustration. Kid Ory and His Creole Orchestra was released on Columbia Records on a 78 rpm four-disc set. Jazz trombonist Edward “Kid” Ory (1886-1973) was a legendary figure in the development of New Orleans “hot” stylings of the early 20th century. As a bandleader he hired a number of key players who later achieved great prominence, such as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and King Oliver.

Produced in 2009 by Flora archivist Barbara Economon, the print was meticulously and painstakingly crafted from a mint-condition artist’s proof sheet of the Krupa cover in the Jim Flora (1914-1998) collection. The image area is 15-1/2" square and the trim size of the entire sheet is 22" × 17".

Only twenty (20) prints of Kid Ory and His Creole Orchestra were produced for this edition. Each print is hand-numbered in the lower right corner beneath the image and authenticated on the reverse with the stamped seal of Jim Flora Art LLC (a Flora family enterprise).

The unframed prints are on heavyweight (310g) mould-made William Turner stock, a natural white, 100% rag paper with a fine toothy surface manufactured by Hahnemühle, who are renowned for premium-grade archival papers. The edition was produced on an Epson 3800Pro large format printer using Epson UltraChrome K3 Pigment Ink Technology, resulting in brilliant, velvety color and offering excellent longevity and durability.

The print will ship flat, securely packaged and guaranteed against bending or dents. If it is damaged in shipment, it will be replaced.
