In 1959 Ms. Cruse walked into a Honololu newspaper office with a notion for a column to aid the modern housewife. Ms. Cruse offered to work for free for 30 days and the editor wisely took her up on it. By 1961 Ms. Cruse was on the cover of Time magazine.
Ms. Cruse went on to publish several collections of her advice:
Heloise’s Housekeeping Hints, 1962
Heloise’s Kitchen Hints, 1963
Heloise All Around the House, 1965
Hints For Working Women, 1966
Heloise’s Work and Money Savers, 1967
The artwork created by Reed Seifer here is culled from her 1965 introduction to Heloise All Around the House.
Ms. Cruse relayed her advice and guidance with a singular brilliance, an eloquent flourish and realistic optimism.
Ms. Cruse’s tombstone reads:
“Heloise, Every Housewife’s Friend.”
Ms. Cruse’s daughter continues to pen the newspaper column, still in wide circulation today.

I think of Helena Rubinstein who said, "it is not selling -- I didn't make it expensive enough."
