About
sonic fabric, woven from 50% recorded audio cassette tape and 50% colored thread, is the invention of sound/conceptual artist alyce santoro. the bowties were developed as a limited-edition offshoot of alyce’s larger-scale installation art. the fabric is woven at a small family-run textile mill in new england, and each tie is handsewn in new york city by julio cesar. the fabric is actually audible if you run a tape head over it! please visit the sonic fabric playlist on youtube for details.
the sound collages recorded onto the tape for this batch of ties comes from alyce’s “between stations” cd, an ode to new york city composed of samples collected on and under the streets of manhattan and brooklyn. listen and download at sonic fabric.com.

this bowtie 4" wide by 3" wide tall, and is BLACK. please ask if you’d like a custom color – brown or gray are also available. each comes packaged with descriptive cardstock label.
