copper is the second most electrically-conductive metal (silver is the first) on earth. its ionic charge also gives it germicidal properties, which is why it is frequently used in hospitals as work surfaces, and in water filtration systems. a copper doorknob will disinfect itself of most pathogens over an 8-hour period.
copper wool is an underutilized, underappreciated material. when used for cleaning, it renders abrasive toxic chemical powders and liquids unnecessary.
