About Tierra Sol Studio
Tierra + Sol uses local, natural, and recycled materials to create happy focal points to brighten any space. Tierra + Sol, or soil and sun, represents everything we strive to create using natural materials like hand thrown planters from clay, moss and ferns we collect by hand, plants from small local growers, soils we mix ourselves, plants and flowers we collect and preserve, recycled materials, and sun, water, and love that go into making products that make people happy to look at and use. Even our packing materials are all made from recycled unused materials to ensure that we are giving back as much to the earth as we can, because it is certainly providing us with the most beautiful and highest quality materials. Our Story:I began making terrariums as an escape from graduate school--determined to create a unique focal piece for my work space that would last through a draught of neglect as I focused on my writing. I had never been successful at keeping plants alive, so I began to study about them with the same dedication as my work. I studied the different types of plants, their natural habitats, how to hand make different soil types, amounts of water and drainage needed, and how to use activated charcoal as a filter. I went from one terrarium made with my husband during a writing break to a living room full of terrariums and no shortage of ideas in sight. Family and friends suggested we sell them at local markets and we began Tierra Sol Studio.I create everything for Tierra Sol Studio with my husband, Yair (who often makes much more beautiful terrariums than I do) and my seventeen year-old sister who inspires me to create fun and new ideas, and helps me with local markets. All of the terrariums are made in our home studio (which has somehow turned into our entire apartment) and I throw all of the pottery pieces at a local ceramics studio in Carrboro, NC. Creating terrariums together as a wife and husband team in our home has been one of the best decisions we have ever made. It is so thrilling to be able to create something in our home that we love that will end up being something someone else loves in their home. Working at the local art studio with other potters gives me the chance to step away from the home studio and always feel fresh, have new ideas, and receive feedback on my work. I find it incredibly satisfying to return to art and create something with my hands that is able to brighten a space and make people happy.Check out our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/tierrasolstudio for market dates, discounts, and giveaways!
