Say hello to Jess Wainer
Jess Wainer’s love of ceramics began at an early age, and soon became her primary focus. Starting in a home studio when she was 10 years old, she later attended RISD and the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. It was at Haystack where she was introduced to the ceramic technique of sgraffito, a process in which drawings are carved into specially stained clay, creating unique two-toned images. Looking to fuse sgraffito with the luminous colors and forms of blown glass, Jess developed an innovative method to do just that. Using a photosensitive film process, Jess is able to carve drawings into hand-blown glass, creating her beautiful signature pieces.
We love that Jess knew what she wanted to do, and worked to make it possible. A good reminder to keep learning, creating, and innovating.
